Just give up.

That’s not how it began, but that’s when it hit home. Just give up.

I rebelled. “No!”

Just give up, the thoughts in my mind said louder, you’re tired. Then came the litany of excuses of why I could not finish what I set out to do, and did not have to.

It’s late. This isn’t when you work best. You won’t be able to do it. You are just wasting time you could be enjoying. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe it just won’t get done for a while.

Finally, comes the death blow- It’s ok.

The Death of Every Great Vision

That my friends is how they getcha. It’s how we get ourselves.

We come up against an obstacle. Maybe it’s boredom. Maybe it’s time. Maybe it’s not knowing what the next step is. Then next thing we know, all those excuses come out of nowhere attempting to over power us.

We fight at them. We try to fend them off with logic, and reason. We create paths around them. We shout out against them, but it is exhausting. Not to mention after all that our goal feels just as far away as ever.

Then comes the knight in shining armor. Something to save us from the guilt of failure.

It’s ok.

A small consultation prize sneaks into our minds. Something to let us feel good about not accomplishing what we set out to. Something to reassure us that it is not our fault. We begin to feel relieved. It was an impossible task. Down right unrealistic. It’s not the end of the world.

And it’s not.

However, the difference between letting that feeling win over, and pushing through it just a little to put yourself closer to your goals is monumental. It’s the difference between throwing down the weights, or getting them up one more time.

It is often what separates the people from living their dreams, achieving their goals, and improving their lives from the people who aren’t. It is not the scope of their ideas, of the creativeness of their plan. It isn’t how smart they are. It isn’t how connected they are. It isn’t how good they are.

It is the number of times they went just a let further than they thought they could. It is because of all the times, they heard a voice telling them it was ok to stop there, and they push past it a little further.

It isn’t about what you are doing, or how you are doing it. It is about doing it.

At the end of they day you either did it, or you didn’t. You either acted, or you didn’t. You either ignored that voice letting you know that is was ok not to be better, ok  not to improve, ok not to have what you want, and do what you want, or you didn’t.

You can’t get past the voice every time. No one does. You don’t have to.

If you can just push it back into the recesses of your mind more often than you let it win over, then you are onto something great.

Practice shoving it down, and out of your way to get just 10% more out of yourself, because that it how you start seeing real changes in the world around you!

“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious…and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”

    ― Walt Disney Company

    Keep moving forward!
